Anti-Trump actions quickly turned violent as units of heavily armed and armored riot gestapo shot "crowd control" weapons at citizens. The police assaults happened during President's Day actions held in downtown - today February 20th. Between 100-300 activists took part in a rally and march beginning around noon. Organized by Don't Shoot Portland, the "Not My President's Day" street action was meant to voice opposition to Trump's fascist advances, as well as repeat demands of justice for Quanice D. Hayes. Hayes was a 17 year old Black teen gunned down by Portland cop Andrew Hearst back on Feb. 9th 2017.
Riot cops fired "less-than-lethal" projectiles at the marchers. They also tackled and arrested several people. Citizen-captured video shows one woman standing off against a wall of riot cops while on the sidewalk, then being apprehended. Police thugs were also captured on video pepper-spraying and roughing up marchers... even as people remained on the sidewalk. [...]

Apologies are still needed from Portland City Hall and The Oregonian for the wretched racist internment campaigns waged on behalf on the white majority at the time. The decades that have passed since these horrors started in 1942 have in no way diminished the need for real atonement, especially since many of the people on the wrong end of these life shattering nightmares are still alive. Portland's current status as a proud Sanctuary City will continue to ring hollow in the extreme if official apologies, at the very least, are not forthcoming. [...]

Hayes was gunned down by officer Andrew Hearst, gang member of the Portland Police Gestapo, (PPG) on Thursday morning February 9th 2017. Hayes was 17 years old and Black. Hearst is White. This racial police murder took place near NE 82nd Ave. and Handcock. More than a week after Hayes' murder, details remain sketchy. With no apparent video recordings and no [known] witnesses, the only account from that day has come from the Portland Police regime. Hayes was shot by Hearst at least three times. On the Sunday following Hayes' murder, about 100 people gathered for a vigil in the teen's honor. Mourners included his mother Venus Hayes, who spoke on her son's behave. On Thursday February 16th, one week after Hayes' murder, hundreds of people held a rally and march demanding justice for Hayes and his killer to be brought to justice. The rally began in the South Park blocks then marchers made their way through down town Portland. Because the march had been "unpermitted" (i.e. you don't need permission from the city to protest injustice), cops in riot gear armed with war weapons harassed the marchers for several hours. One person was reportedly arrested.

On October 11, 2016, five brave climate activists, determined to act commensurately with the truth of unfolding climate cataclysm in the face of the failure of adequate policy, closed safety valves on the 5 pipelines carrying tar sands crude oil into the United States.
This act of climate disobedience shut down 15% of US crude oil imports for nearly a day - a display of the sorts of shifts that are necessary to avoid complete cataclysm. In this light, the five valve-turners are standing by their actions, saying that they are not only necessary, but morally and legally justified to avoid the catastrophic harm caused to humanity by unprecedented climactic disruption.

Just a handful of photos I managed to take from Saturday's massive march.
PDX Women's March/Anti-Trump rally. Was honestly impressed by such a turnout. Imagine had the weather been NICE. Wish I had seen MORE People of Color, and LESS Hillary supporters taking selfies with cops. Still, nice march in the rain.
